Ani ng Pag-asa: The Farmers of Santa Catalina

Image
Farming is more than just growing crops, it is the foundation of Sta. Catalina. As part of our research, we first examined how agriculture supports local business owners, generates employment, and provides food for families. We visited the fields, talked to farmers and business owners, and even cooked some of the local cuisine.              Walking through the big green fields of Sta . Ca talina, we witnessed directly why Santa Catalina is known as the "Vegetable Bowl of the North." The well-kept fields including rice, corn, onions, and other vegetables demonstrated their commitment as farmers. We are even more grateful for their contributions to the community when we witness their tireless efforts.           Before our interviews, we spent some time preparing to prepare lumpianada with Sta . Ca talina's fresh harvest. This experience connected us to ou...

Learning, Challenges, and Growth

This quarter, I learned the use of HTML frames, unordered and ordered lists, and nested lists. We also learned how to style a web page using CSS. The community-based research entitled "Doon PO Sa Amin, Maraming Aanihin at Masaganang Lupain! Sta. Catalina's Agriculture: The Source of Community's Pride and Livelihood" really made me appreciate the life struggles of farmers and entrepreneurs in Sta. Catalina, Ilocos Sur; through interviews and analysis, we noted the strengths and challenges of the agriculture sector, as well as suggested solutions to these issues.                However, despite these successes, I faced difficulties such as that of understanding the complex HTML structures as well as CSS styling techniques. Initially, applying CSS to make the webpage visually appealing was not easy. I had to be very patient and make extra effort when doing community-based research, espe...

Because of this, Chinese New Year has become a widely celebrated event in the country.          During the Chinese New Year on Philippines,  the  traditions  include  dragon and lion dances, giving ang ampao  or  red envelopes with money inside of the envelopes or ampao, and  cooking  dishes  that   would  bring luck  like  tikoy ,   a  sticky rice cake ,  and round fruits.
